Vulture Hunter

    The enemy was unnaturally cunning. It soon became clear that the Krieg invaders had been lead into a trap. The ashes and smoke from a still burning food storage (Later reports would make it clear that the fires were not started by artillery, but by the defenders themselves) made it difficult for the masked soldiers to see into the many crevasses and nooks, concealing anti-tank squads and snipers. Krieg artillery shook and savaged the streets, unfortunately many of the buildings hit were large warehouses and the shells had little to no effect. This was of no concern to the Krieg 710th panzer regiment nor the 405th Infantry regiment, but problems came to fever pitch when platoon commanders, spotters, tank commanders (who do to the smoke resorted to guiding there tanks from their cupola) and even the generals staff became the targets of an assassin. What made this more difficult to manage was the fact that the assassin was not some sniper or strike team, but a Vulture gunship strafing their positions. The wide streets of the city, which was designed to move and store tons of agricultural supplies for shipment off world, provided a perfect kill zone for the skilled pilot.
    The tempting target of a lone Leman Russ was simply too good to ignore. Closing in upon the target at a slow pace, as any mistake could spell their destruction, the pilot signaled to his gunner that the next street contained their target. The Leman Russ's augur array reported a contact approaching. The green dot flashing on the small screen was almost the size of the street and it's slow speed resembled a super heavy tank. Kross could only prepare for the worst as he gripped the heavy stubber and drew his plasma pistol, and as he was giving the order to rotate the gun the contact jumped into action. The Vulture burst from the smoke twin punisher cannons spinning up, only to whirl uselessly as the small ball of plasma vaporized the gunners cabin and quickly began to eat into the pilots control console. Glass began cracking as displays failed, the very metal of the cockpit glowed with the hostile intent of burning the pilot alive. It was only the saving grace of the nearby structure that spared the pilot an agonizing death, torn to shreds and crushed into the plasticrete.
